The third scholar on a team may be a substitute who also qualified at a Global Round but whose teammates are not participating
Location:
Doha in June, Seoul and London in July, Xiamen and Bangkok in August, and Bangkok and Gold Coast in September.
Perks:
Learning Opportunities: The WSC introduces participants to new subjects and skills. It also allows students to gain basic comfort in public speaking.
Teamwork and Communication: The WSC encourages students to work together across a range of academic disciplines. It also provides proof of academic, teamwork, and communication ability to university admission committees.
Competitive Environment: The WSC encourages competitiveness but emphasizes that there are no losers. It also has a high award rate for individual and team competitions.
International Exposure: Participating in the WSC can be a strong support for international university applications.
Community Building: The WSC is meant to reach deep into the student population, inspiring a love of learning. You can form mixed teams with students from other schools or countries.
Costs of Participation: The WSC is a not-for-profit organization. All their materials are free to all participants. There is usually a small tournament fee that varies by round to help cover tournament expenses.
Eligibility Criteria:
Age Divisions: The WSC has two divisions:
Junior Division: This includes students up to 13 years old. There is no bottom cut-off, but most participants are at least 10.
Senior Division: This is for students 14 and older. Any student who turns 14 by January 1, 2024 (i.e., born before January 1, 2010) will be considered a senior division student.
Team Composition: Teams can be formed with students from other schools or countries. Two-member teams are welcome to compete, but they can score a maximum of 30,000 instead of 40,000 points.
Student Levels: Middle school and high school students of all levels are eligible to participate in the World Scholars Cup.
Regional Round Points: Students who exceed an 18,000 point threshold at a Regional Round earn a wildcard.
Remember, the World Scholar’s Cup is designed to inspire a love of learning and introduce participants to new subjects and skills1. It’s not just for the “top” three students at each school.
